Nicky Hockly

Nicky has worked in the field of face-to-face and distance education since 1987, as a teacher, teacher trainer and consultant. She holds an MA in TEFL from the Universidad de Granada ( Spain ), a CTEFLA (1987) and a DTEFLA (1991). She has worked as a teacher trainer on Cambridge-ESOL CELTA courses, and has given seminars, in-service workshops and teacher training courses for practising language teachers in the UK, South America, South Africa and in many European countries. She has also been involved in materials development, for both EFL course books and online learning.

Before joining The Consultants-E, she was Academic Counsellor at the Fundacion Universitaria Iberoamericana on a distance Master in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) programme, offered through various Spanish and Latin American universities. This MA programme used the medium of CMC (Computer Mediated Communication) as a basic tool, in which the emphasis is on delivery of content, and also on the use of communication skills for learning and personal/professional development. Her work here involved not only instructional design, but training of university faculty members in the skills necessary for successful online teaching and learning.

Nicky was Co-ordinator of the IATEFL TTEd SIG (Teacher Trainers and Educators Special Interest Group) from 2003- 2005, and a member of the IATEFL TTEd Committee until 2006, as well as a member of the IATEFL Marketing Committee (2005-2006). She was Editor of a magazine aimed at EFL teacher development, called iT's for Teachers , from 2002 - 2004, and was on The ELT Journal Advisory Panel for two years (2004-6).

She has written many articles on education and online learning (see Publications below), and spoken at conferences all over the world. She currently writes a regular column in English Teaching Professional Magazine on uses of ICT for teachers (2009 - present), and has co-written the book "How to Teach English with Technology", Longman 2007, which looks at the application of new technologies to the classroom.

She lives in Barcelona, Spain.
