  • Cert ICT: Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology

    The Cert ICT: Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology is an online international qualification, designed and developed by The Consultants-E and validated by Trinity College London. The course examines a range of useful technology-related skills and tools which are immediately applicable in the language classroom. Course participants develop basic computer literacy skills, learn about various approaches to using technology in the classroom, explore (free) online tools, and have the opportunity to put these into practice over the duration of the course itself.

  • Blended Cert ICT: Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology

    The Blended Cert ICT: Certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology covers the same content as the fully online Cert ICT (see above), but is run in blended mode. This means that part of the course is offered face-to-face (f2f), and part of the course offered online. Of the total 120 course hours, 50 hours are offered f2f, and 70 hours are then offered online.

  • Cert IBET: Certificate in International Business English Training)

    The Cert IBET (Certificate in International Business English Training) is jointly managed and validated by Trinity College London and English UK. The course aims to meet the needs of business English trainers to enhance their skills and expertise, to increase their employability prospects in the sector, and improve their ability to deliver a quality product to potential clients. The Cert IBET course looks at a range of useful techniques, tools and resources for teaching Business English to learners, in 10 modules over 70 hours.

  • E-Moderation: A Training Course for Online Tutors

    This course is aimed at teachers, trainers, tutors, facilitators, lecturers and mentors from any discipline and any level of education, who are interested in developing the skills necessary to become an effective e-moderator in online courses. We cover issues such as motivation online, synchronous and asynchronous online tutor skills, and online group dynamics, as well as experimenting with some of the (free) tools available to teach online.

    Tutors from certified CELTA training centres are offered a 15% discount on the Emoderation course fees.

  • mLearning in Practice

    This course is about mobile learning, or 'mlearning' - learning with mobile or handheld devices. The course aims to explore mLearning from both the learner's and the educator's perspective. It looks at the range of mobile and handheld devices currently available for learning, some of the games and apps (small programs of 'applications'), best practice and principles in mLearning, as well as implementing mLearning through project work with learners. Note that it is not necessary to own a mobile/cell phone of any description to take the course, although if you own a smartphone, you could take the entire course on it!

    The VLE Starter training course teaches you to set up and use one of the leading virtual learning management tools with learners, in any discipline. The course is hand-on and experiential – from the first week of the course itself you will be setting up and developing a sample course for your own learners.

  • VLE Smarter

    This more advanced training course teaches you to use some of the more complex VLE tools and functions, which are not covered in our VLE Starter course (see above). It is aimed at educators who already have a solid grounding in using VLEs, and would like to expand their repertoire by learning about other administrative tools. The focus of the course is squarely on good pedagogical practice and course design, and how advanced VLE functions relate to this.

  • WebQuests

    This course examines the theory and practice of WebQuests, and looks at real examples of WebQuests created for language learners. Participants design, plan and create their own WebQuest, for use in their own teaching context with their own learners, and put it online using free WebQuest generator tools.

  • Short courses: Blogs, eNetworks, Podcasts, Wikis

    Each of these practical, hands-on 10-hour short courses focuses on one Web 2.0 tool.

    Blogs: This short online course looks at teacher, students and class blogs, and how they can be used by teachers both in and outside the classroom with learners. We also examine RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and learn how to use this to subscribe to blogs. You will set up a blog during the course.

    eNetworks: This course is for educators interested in learning how to set up online communities, and online training events or conferences. You will set up an action plan for an online event or conference during the course.

    Podcasts: This course looks at how podcasting works, how it can help students learn, and what teacher needs to know and do to use audio podcasts with learners. You will create our own podcasts during the course using free web-based podcasting software.

    Wikis: This course looks at wikis, how to set them up, and how they can be used for collaborative projects with learners. You will create our own wiki during the course using free web-based wiki software.
